In the summer, Americans gravitate to the water, from the Great Lakes to the Gulf Coast, Half Moon Bay to South Beach and everywhere in between.
The key to good beach wine is to keep it light and thirst-quenching, and remember to have plenty of water around to combat the dehydrating effects of the sun.
Refreshing wines tend to be either light and fruity, and/or very dry. The high acidity in dry wines promotes a crisp, refreshing feeling on the palate.
Try some of these great wines. They can all be served chilled (so don't forget to pack ice) and are perfect for relaxing in the sun, cookouts on the beach, or for serving with the catch of the day. And if you're worried about bringing glass, you can decant most into a less breakable package, or try our White Sangria recipe and bring it in a cooler: Mix: 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 cup mint leaves, sliced fruit (oranges, lemons, limes, peaches, strawberries, raspberries, and apples), and 1-2 oz orange liquer or brandy, and let sit (overnight if possible). Before heading out, add ice, 1 bottle white wine and two cups sparkling water.
