Pouilly-Fuissé is one of Burgundy’s most popular white wines. The two villages of Pouilly and Fuissé lie in the heart of southern Burgundy’s Mâconnais district and are surrounded by Chardonnay vines; in fact the village of Chardonnay is not too far from here. The full-bodied and long-lived wines from this region are lauded the world over for their complexity and sublime fruit expression.

Antonin Rodet is an extremely dynamic producer in Burgundy. They are consistently lauded by Burgundy critics: Clive Coates, Decanter, etc. Founded in 1875 by its namesake, Rodet originally produced just Mercurey, but now owns a half-dozen properties across Burgundy. Their Pouilly-Fuissé is matured 20% in oak and the remainder in stainless steel to preserve freshness.

Tasting Notes:

An opulent green-gold colored wine with a deeply packed nose of apple, pear, almond, acacia flower and stone fruit aromas. On the palate, this full-bodied white is soft with mouth-filling honey, brioche and ripe white fruit flavors balanced by classic minerality. The wine’s balanced acidity and long finish are hallmarks of true quality. An excellent aperitif, this white will complement fish in sauce, roasted poultry, mushrooms, quiche, shellfish, and fresh cheeses. Drinks very well now to 2011.
