France

Château Chênaie is one of the best estates in Faugères. We tried their Faugères rosé this Spring and were thoroughly impressed. This fresh, fruit flavored rosé is the best of the year.

This rosé is a blend of Cinsault (60%), Grenache (35%) and Syrah (5%) harvested by hand from low-yielding vineyards. After sorting and de-stemming, the free-run juice begins fermentation in contact with the skins before completing fermentation in stainless steel tanks. short maceration period of a couple hours gives the wine its vibrant color and fruit flavor. Chênaie’s red wines are made from the same grapes, but with a much longer maceration – sometimes the wine stays in contact with the skins for a week or more imparting color and tannin to the wine.

Tasting Notes:

A beautiful pale salmon-pink colored wine. The nose has delicate aromas of strawberry and raspberry with a hint of mint and herbs. It is fresh on the palate with an array of fruit flavors ranging from peaches to berries to passion fruit. A very balanced wine with good acidity and a long refreshing finish. Serve chilled as an aperitif or with chilled soups (gazpacho), salads, cold cuts, or grilled vegetables. Full-bodied enough to stand up to grilled meats and sausages. Drink over the next two to three years.
