Release Notes:
Château Coutelin Merville is owned by the talented winemaker, Bernard Estager. The estate has 60 acres of vines near Châteaux Haut Marbuzet and Tour de Pez. This wine is a blend of 50% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot that spent 18 months in oak barrels (a quarter of them new) before bottling.
Tasting Notes:
Dense garnet purple colored wine with plum, smoke, spice, tobacco and leather aromas. A well-structured wine with concentrated blackcurrant, anise and tobacco flavors, good tannins, and a spicy finish. The 2003 has serious aging potential and will be stellar from 2010 to 2015. If you want to enjoy it sooner, make sure to decant or let breathe for an hour before serving with roasts, lamb, game birds and strong cheeses. Our Rating: 93+
Winery:
Saint Estèphe is the northernmost of the great Médoc communes in Bordeaux. The soil contains more clay and less gravel than Pauillac, and, subsequently, the wines contain a higher percentage of Merlot.
