The 2003 vintage produced many high-quality wines in Bordeaux. However, because of the extreme heat, it was a difficult vintage and there are some irregular wines. The best wines come from the northern Medoc (St. Julien), Emilion and Fronsac. Sandwiched between the legendary 2000 and 2005 vintages, 2003 is a buyer's vintage - the prices are very reasonable and the wines are made for drinking young.

At Glana, the crop matured extremely early with low yields (42 hl/hA). The juice was quite sweet and acidity was low, but sufficient. A few showers in early September gave rise to the fear that rot might set in, but the arrival of dry, hot weather dissipated any anxiety, and the fruit was superbly ripe and healthy. Like most Medoc wines, Glana's 2003 is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon (67%) rounded out with Merlot (27%) and Cabernet Franc (6%). A great early drinking, delightful, traditional St. Julien that earned 4 stars from Decanter Magazine.

Tasting Notes:

This is a bright ruby red wine with a bold aroma of cedar and aged black fruit. A traditional Bordeaux with attractive dark fruit and spice flavors on the palate and a beautiful finish of integrated tannins and well-seasoned oak. Drink 2007 to 2010 with roasts, lamb, and soft cheeses.
