Release Notes:
VASCA is Italian for vat; this wine is named for Vasca 101, the stainless steel tank in Gaspare Vinci’s winery in which it was fermented. The wine is 100% Grillo, the grape responsible for the great Marsala wines of Sicily’s past. 75 years ago, Grillo was planted throughout the island, but today only a few thousand acres remain on the western coast around the towns of Trapani and Marsala. With the right training, Grillo produces full-bodied complex wines with rich powerful ripeness and, at the same time, delicate aromas and acidity. This example’s grapes come from 30-year old vines in coastal chalk and sandstone vineyards caressed by fresh sea breezes.
Tasting Notes:
A lemon-colored wine with an expressive peach, nectarine, melon and citrus nose, typical of Grillo. In the mouth, this full-bodied white has concentrated citrus and stone fruit flavors with a spice and herb undertone. A unique wine, it finishes cleanly on floral and mineral notes. Ideal with seafood (scallops, shrimp, & salmon), grilled chicken and even savory pasta dishes now through 2010.
