Release Notes:
Nero d’avola has become Sicily’s signature red varietal thanks to its combination of lush red fruit flavors, body and aging potential. The No1 trio discovered the best examples of this grape further inland from Marsala on compact clay and lime soils baked by the warm Mediterranean sunshine. The abundant soft tannins present in the grapes at harvest meant that the wine would not require any wood aging – preserving its natural aromatics and freshness. Vasca 25 has a small amount (less than 5% each) of Merlot and Syrah added to round out the wine.
Tasting Notes:
A purple-ruby colored wine with a distinctive dark berry, black pepper, anise and cardamom nose. A very dry wine with a jammy blackberry fruit attack, refreshing acidity and a firm structure. Abundant, soft tannins lead up to a spicy, smooth finish. This red wine will complement a variety of meat and pasta dishes, especially roast beef, meatballs, lasagna, BBQ ribs, pizza and even swordfish. Drink now through 2012.
