More than 80% of Sicily’s vineyards are planted with grape varieties native to the island with Nero d’Avola as the most famous example. Apalos, this wine’s name, is the Greek word for tender and soft. This moniker accurately reflects this Nero d’Avola’s rich and full-bodied elegance in opposition to the over-extracted, heady examples that are all too common.

Tasting Notes:

A dark ruby-violet colored wine with an intense fruit and floral nose of plum, black licorice, violet and black pepper. On the palate, this full-bodied red has dark fruit and herb flavors and a lot of dry extract. The roundness continues up to the clean finish on soft, silky tannins. Nero d’Avola is perfect for hamburgers, lamb, prime rib and other hearty red meat dishes. Drink now to 2010.
