Release Notes:
Borgogno is one of the most famous names of Barolo –numerous members of the family producing, marketing, and shipping wine throughout the Piedmont’s most famous wine region since 1720! Virna Borgogno has taken over her father, Ludovico’s, estate with vineyards in some of Barolo’s most famous vineyards. This wine is the estate’s flagship; it comes from the “crus” of Preda and Sarmassa whose Nebbiolo vines date back to the 1960s and early 1970s. The somewhat different soils, exposures and microclimates of the Preda and Sarmassa vineyards combine to produce a well-balanced, harmonious wine packed with the fresh, elegant aromas supplied by La Preda, and the full body and structure catered for by Sarmassa.
Tasting Notes:
A very deep ruby red colored wine with an orange rim. The nose has surprising freshness with raspberry and cranberry notes combined with delicate vanilla, orange and rose petal notes. A brooding full-bodied wine with powerful tannins and acidity that make it capable of long cellar aging. This huge orange and red fruit flavored wine has a long and spicy finish. Drink 2010 to 2020 with game, lamb, roast beef, blue cheese, and hearty baked pasta dishes.
